Ketamine-Assisted Therapy & Sacred Ceremony
a retreat for Healthcare Providers
Cornville, Arizona
The February 2025 retreat is now full. We are accepting waitlist registrations.
About Sacred Ceremony in Psychedelic Therapy
In 2022, Modern Spirit organized a retreat for students at a psychedelic therapy training program with the focus of bringing ancestral techniques into modern ketamine-assisted psychotherapy approaches. We have incorporated ceremonial preparation/opening/closing, live chanting during the sessions and integration with local Indigenous elders into our program at the Ancient Springs center in Cornville, AZ.
The retreat was very impactful and inspirational, and we have since grown our retreat offerings to make these unique retreats available to healthcare providers and facilitators involved in psychedelic therapy who are looking to expand their connection to ceremonial work and indigenous tradition.
What to Expect
The program includes 2 experiential ketamine sessions per participant and 2 opportunities to sit for another participant in group ketamine sessions. These sessions will be guided by Joe Tafur MD and Sandra Nogueria-Lopez and supported by the team. There will be guided integration sessions with Indigenous elders and teachers, including Rutury Temay and Josie Begay-James, with continued ceremonial education throughout. The retreat will be supported by Rebekah Bohucki, RN. This retreat will be a small and intimate group, with a maximum of ten participants.
The schedule begins on Thursday night and ends Sunday at noon. Participants will need to transport themselves to and from Cornville, AZ, approximately 90 minutes from Phoenix, or arrange group transportation with other participants.
About the Retreat Center
Ancient Springs offers a beautiful and sacred location with comfortable lodging and gourmet food (vegetarian with vegan options.) It is located in the Page Springs Greenbelt, just outside Sedona, in Cornville, AZ. The retreat center is on 6 acres of land, with an artesian spring, ponds, and paths to wander. What past participants are saying:
-
“I believe a retreat like this, an experience like this, is meant to help address the vicarious trauma and moral injury of healthcare professionals in the United States; especially being far away from day to day life, together with other physicians, healthcare professionals and a supportive staff. This creates the ideal set, setting and container to help heal us from within, find "connection", a "sense of community", "togetherness", "feeling "whole" again and feeling "plugged in". It restores the desire to reconnect with community, family, and our patients as we rediscover (self)love and the appreciation for all living creatures, which improves our collective quality of life.”
-Dr. Rixt Luikenaar (Colombia retreat)
-
I am forever grateful for the healing medicine of Ayahuasca, the Colombian land, sacred plant teachings, curanderos and profound metamorphosis I experienced. I was able to release deeply rooted and heavy energy that was been with me my whole life. It was not easy, but I was able to be held and supported in a manner that allowed such a release and cleanse. It was purely divine and transformative. I left Colombia with an open heart and new sense of being. I am filled with joy, grace, creativity and a love that cannot be explained but only felt with my heart and soul. Forever grateful to be part of the Church of the Eagle & Condor and such a beautiful community. Thank you to the Creator for my life. Thank you Dr. Joe, Cvita, Xochi and to Kewal for making magic happen on this Earth and in my life. Abundant Blessings to you and yours. Always. A'Ho.
Tawny Margaret Gamboa (Colombia retreat)

“What unfolded what extraordinary. Through a cultivation of ceremony and intention to connect to healing through community, friendships were forged and the richness of deep insight and healing, with the assistance of psychedelic therapy unfolded. This experience was like no other experience I have had. It was deep, profound, and continues to unwrap its gifts.”
-Dr. Ina Hilgers (Arizona retreat)
-
“The retreat was so much more than just a chance to sit with plant medicine, it was a deep immersion into the local culture, their traditions and beliefs, and a simpler way of living. This created a depth to the week that I don’t think we would have gotten elsewhere.”
-Rachael O’Donnell, LCSW (Colombia retreat)
-
“It’s is clear to me, the importance of the preservation of the elements of sacred ceremony. Where we can touch the spirit of the work needing to be done within us and for others. The space provided, safety, preparation, the wisdom of the elders, sacred songs, the intentions of the facilitators are the key factors in making it possible for healing to occur.”
-Rosie RN, Ayurveda practitioner, Spiritual Mentor & Healer (Arizona retreat)

I had an absolutely transformative experience in a serene and supportive environment. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate, creating a safe space for deep healing. The integration process was invaluable, helping me turn insights into lasting change. Every aspect exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't be more grateful!

This retreat provided a safe space to work out some tough issues that had been causing me suffering for most of my life. It inspired me to make changes in my attitude at work that I predict will help me be more effective and more supportive of others. I was surrounded by kindness during my journeys.

A wonderful experience in every sense - the wide ranging ceremonies (sweat lodge, multiple ayahuasca, and yopo), the setting, the shamans, and the kind and accommodating staff at the retreat facility - all top notch. I gained a lot of critical perspectives and insights!

This is on my list of top experiences in life and looking forward to repeat next year.
