Medicine Song Course:
Spiritual Healing and the Psychedelic Renaissance
An ancient prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor, here representing the often-polarized science and spirit, mind and heart, foretold that ours would be a time of great upheaval calling for a re-harmonizing, a healing, both within ourselves and in the world at large. Dr. Tafur follows this legendary prophecy into our current times, as he invites you to rediscover the sacred in yourself and in the world around you.
In this course, we will explore the past 30+ years of scientific breakthroughs known as the Psychedelic Renaissance and relate those discoveries to modern revelations about the vital role of spiritual healing, about the relationship between consciousness and well-being. As the psychedelic renaissance reshapes our understanding of mental and physical health, how will we acknowledge and engage with the mystical dimensions of healing?
In this highly anticipated follow-up to the River Course, Dr. Joe Tafur will utilize his new book, Medicine Song, as a vehicle to explore the personal journey that spirituality represents to each one of us. By examining near-death experiences, spiritual gifts, neuronal networks and brain entropy, dreams and visions, nature’s wisdom, the interconnectedness of all things, emotional breakthroughs, and… life’s mystical connections, Dr. Tafur will invite us to re-visit the current role of spirituality in our world, including its impact on health and healing.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
We are once again bridging spirit and science. This course is designed for both healthcare providers involved in psychedelic-assisted therapy space and spiritual healthcare providers supporting ceremonial healing and spiritual growth.
In this course, we will explore the past 30+ years of scientific breakthroughs known as the Psychedelic Renaissance and relate those discoveries to our growing understanding of the role of spiritual healing in modern medicine, working together to discern a more universal spirituality. We will share in dialogue about consciousness, art, energy, and music exploring their relationship to health and wellness.
We will use Dr. Tafur’s new book Medicine Song as our guide.

CLASS TOPICS
Class 1 - Transcendence, Near Death Experience, and Spiritual Gifts. MS chapters 1-3 (1990-2003):
This first class will review the first three chapters of the book, exploring the implications of the return of psychedelic research (1990-2003). We will explore the role of the transcendent in this body of research and demonstrate its validated connection to our health. We will also note related scientific developments that have supported this growing understanding. From there, we will explore our own connection to the transcendent together, by helping one another uncover spiritual gifts.
Transcendence: Transpersonal Psychology, Integrative Psychology
NDEs and Psychedelic Therapy
Non-local Consciousness and Integrative Medicine
Small Group Discussion: Spiritual Gifts
Class 2 - Ancestral Wisdom and Ceremonial Practice, MS chapters 4-6 (2003-2013):
In the second session, we will discuss some of the psychedelic research that led us toward the MAPS 2013 Psychedelic Science Conference, following along with book chapters 4-6 (2003-2013). During that time, clinical investigation revealed that “psilocybin-occasioned experiences are similar to spontaneously occurring mystical experiences.” As mystical and non-ordinary experiences began to make their way into the mainstream, ancestral wisdom and ceremony gained more attention from Western science and culture. We will begin to bridge ancestral wisdom practices to modern therapeutic work, exploring the role of music and loving presence in psychedelic clinical practice.
Mystical Experiences in Psychedelic Clinical Trials
Ancestral Wisdom: from Albert Einstein to Sir Isaac Newton to the Wisdom of Deep Time
Ceremonial Practice/Honoring Sacred Space

Class 3 -Shared Intuition, Mystical Awareness, Visions and Dreams: Discerning the Energetic Landscape, MS Chapters 7-9 (2013-2022)
In the third session, we will follow-along with chapters 7-9 (2013-2022). We will discuss the practice of working within an expanded state setting, in psychedelic therapy and sacred ceremony. We will explore the value of discernment amidst mystical awareness, shared intuition, visions, and dreams. We will discuss neuroscientific mechanisms as they relate to mystical consciousness and potential alignment with innate healing intelligence. We will relate these phenomena to the unfolding Prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. Together we will explore how to learn from our intuitive gifts and from their practical utility.
Sacred Ceremony in Psychedelic Therapy
Innate Healing Intelligence (Homeostasis)
Trauma Healing and Spiritual Growth
Small Group Discussion: Shared Intuition

In the fourth session, we will follow chapters 10-12 into the “Psychedelic Twenties.” We will examine our place in this multidimensional universe here on Earth. We will discuss the central role of our “connectedness” to self, to others, to our ecosystem, and to the sacred. We will examine the intersection of spiritual healing work with psychedelic therapies more deeply.
